Match Reports
Referees are asked to complete a match report after each match. These reports are displayed on the website for the public to view, and include space for you to write a brief account of the game from your unbiased perspective – we think clubs and players will appreciate it. There is also data for the “Hayes Award” given annually to the team that provides the best treatment of referees. Starting with the spring season 2007, completing the report will also be linked directly to our accounting records for reimbursing referee expenses and billing clubs for match fees.
When you are logged in to the website, the match report feature can be reached from your “My Space” area on the website. To complete the initial report, select “Submit Reports” from the list of options on the left hand side of the webpage. You will see a list of your assigned matches and a link to the report for each match. The process is fairly self-explanatory, but here are a few tips:
- The names of the clubs for your match are already entered from the database into the report form. The data field for “Home Team” and “Visiting Team” is for you to enter “1st XV” or “Old Boys” or “B-side” or “Under 23” – whatever is the appropriate team designations.
- You may enter whatever commentary you like in the “Narrative” field but please remember this is for public consumption, so do not make any disparaging personal comments.
- The report form includes a field for “estimated attendance.” Please enter an estimate, including the 30 players on the pitch. We are collecting this data for future use in our sales pitch to potential sponsors.
- The report form includes a space for referee mileage. Please enter your round trip mileage to and from the match. We are modeling the number of miles traveled as part of a proposal to change the match expense reimbursement policies. Please inlcude only local mielage – i.e. if you traveled to your sister’s house in New Hampshire for the weekend, or to your clubs match, and then did a game nearby, please only bill the local mileage.
Disciplinary Reports
The New England Rugby Football Union (NERFU) relies on us as match officials to provide complete reports of any disciplinary issues from matches. If you issue a yellow or red card in a game, please complete the disciplinary report form. The disciplinary report form is found in the same location as the match report form:
When you are logged in to the website, select “My Space.”. To complete the initial report, select “Submit Reports” from the list of options on the left hand side of the webpage.
The report will be automatically forwarded to the NERFU disciplinary committee and also displayed on our website.
