General Pattern of Play
Fairfield Prep was winning most breakdown battles and thus was able to implement its pattern. Fordham Prep was having difficulty imposing its pattern onto the game. A big factor in the first half was that Fairfield Prep was unable to field, or even to see, apparently, most kicked balls due to the position of the sun.

Detailed Report of Incident
In possibly the only instance of a kicked ball that Fairfield Prep caught, a prop jumped to catch a restart kick, pulling his legs up while he was in the air. Mr. McCarthy made no attempt to play the ball and carried on with his tackle even though the prop was clearly off his feet. I knew it was at least a yellow card at the moment it happened, and the safe and balanced landing of the prop, despite Mr. McCarthy's contact, led me to decide that nothing more than yellow was warranted. The Fordham Prep offender, his captain, and his coaches clearly and immediately agreed with my decision. Mr. McCarthy served his sentence in the bin and the game resumed without incident.
