Weather and Field Conditions
Wet muddy field, torn up from earlier matches in the day. Sun was shining and an infants first birthday was being celebrated on the sideline with a keg and cake.

General Pattern of Play
Early part of the match, both teams trying to find rhythm following the card North Shore tightened up and played an excellent game controlling the ball and punishing Springfield for defensive mistakes.

Detailed Report of Incident
Springfield flanker was in the ruck, when he lost his feet he was instructed to roll away by the referee. Apparently the North Shore lock felt he was not rolling away fast enough and felt the need to first rake the flanke...then stomp down twice, lifting his knee above waist level making the call very easy.

Play was immediately blown dead and Mr. Grobler was shown a red card for his deliberate and malicious action. He responded with "but he was laying on the ball" before being taken off the field by teammates.

North Shore captain Andrew Hartigan protested the decision (respectfully) asking if a warning or yellow card would be more appropriate. I told him the the deliberate and dangerours foul play by his second row justified immediate ejection.
