General Pattern of Play |
This was a short 10-a-side B game with 20 minute halves. Most of the Tufts players had already played in the A game. The game was played with good spirit and most errors were due to lack of experience (especially by U Mass).

Detailed Report of Incident |
The incident occurred half way through the second half. There had been no prior incidents. After being tackled the U Mass player ended up lying on the ground with the ball (having been released) about a foot from her head. Gabby approached the site and drew back her foot and gave a firm kick to the U Mass players head, making contact with the cheek/eye area (which was facing downward toward the ground). There is no doubt that this was a deliberate kick but I have serious doubts that the kick was intended for the head and suspected it was an poor attempt to kick the ball. Gabby had played a previous 110 minutes with no hint of foul play and her reaction after the kick was immediate and horrified and she was very apologetic. However, given that this was a substantial kick to the head and that the ball was about a foot away, I felt that she should display more control and decided to give her a red card. The U. Mass player fortunately appear to suffer no substantial injuries. . | |
