Match Report for

Salve Regina University (1st) vs. Western New England College (1st)
24 September 2016

Location: Fort Adams

Salve Regina University: 56    Western New England College: 0

Host Salve rolled up ten tries in an impressive display of phase rugby against a less experienced but game Western New England side. The first ten minutes were very competitive, and WNEC's staunch defense frustrated Salve. Salve finally broke through in the 11th minute, and followed with three more tries in the next 14 minutes. While the WNEC forwards competed effectively in scrums and lineups, tackling was their Achilles heel, and missed tackles were the source of long gains by Salve which put the WNEC defense in disarray. One more try in the 34th minute led to a 29-0 half time lead, and the second half was more of the same. WNEC struggled to maintain possession most of the match, but they improved in that regard during the course of the match and almost put in a try in the dying moments. Overall this was a good match - competitive, hard fought and well disciplined on both sides' parts.
