Match Report for

Mad River/Stowe (1st) vs. New London County (1st)
12 November 2016

Location: Stowe Polo Fields

Mad River/Stowe: 12    New London County: 17

Unusually dry and sunny day for mid-November in the shadows of Mt Mansfield. New London was playing for a playoff spot in the D3 playoffs, while Stowe was trying to get their first win of the season. Mad River struck first on a kick and chase in the corner of the try zone (sadly no instant replay cameras available) in the first three minutes of the game. New London then dominated the possession for the rest of the half, as Mad River proceeded to commit many penalties at breakdowns, leading to a sin bin later in the match.

New London tied the match in the 22nd minute and started strongly in the second half as well, but a miscue by their backs led to a 50 meter breakaway try for Mad River and the upset was on. New London marched down the field for back to back tries in the 58th and 73rd minute, though Mad River had many chances to tie or win the match in the final three minutes, but a knock on with a 4-on-1 in the backs all but ended the match.

Very physical game that had the intensity of a league championship match. Fun way to end the fall season.
