Colby College: 35    University of Maine - Orono: 29

68 degrees, slight breeze from touch-to-touch

Colby: 4T, 3C, 3P UMO: 5T, 2C

An opening kickoff knock-on by the visitors setup a scrum inside their 22. A penalty on the scrum setup a scoring opportunity for the Hosts, which they executed (with a conversion). Orono quickly answered with a try of their own. The first half was very physical, with Orono using their large forwards to gain ground, and Colby swinging it wide and making meters on the fringes. Discipline at the breakdown was an issue for both sides, but when they were playing Rugby, it was entertaining for the crowd that had gathered. Back and forth phases, breakaways, and big hits. The half-time score was 22-14, in favor of Maine. The second opened with a try for Colby, which was converted. They then capitalized on an Orono penalty and successfully kicked for points. Orono answered a few minutes later when their winger took a pass at pace and sliced through the Colby backline. This was last score that Maine was going to make for the game. Colby came out and scored a Try and 2 penalty kicks in the last 15 minutes, and along with some good defense, secured the 6-point victory. The 2nd half was better with the penalties. When each team had the ball in hand and were playing through the phases, it was a fun game to officiate. Good sportsmanship, no scuffles or flair-ups. Uncommon in this rivalry game. Good stuff.
