Match Report for

US Coast Guard Academy (1st) vs. (1st)
09 September 2016

Location: Cadet Memorial Field, US Coast Guard Academy, New London, CT

US Coast Guard Academy: 43    : 7

It was a special evening as the Coast Guard hosted Kings Point at Cadet Memorial Field, the football field on which the two service academies would contest for the Secretaries Cup the following afternoon. With roughly 500 Cadets in the stand, the house was rocking.

Both teams played a passing game on a short and narrow turf pitch; very little tactical kicking and not a single maul in a 60-minute match. The Coast Guard's physical dominance in the set scrum created a reliable platform for the Cadet back line, which they fully exploited, scoring seven tries (four converted) to the Midshipmen's one (converted). An exuberant home crowd and disciplined adherence to their game plan contributed to a decisive win: 43 - 7.

The two clubs played an abbreviated 20-minute 'B' side match immediately following the 'A' side game. Coast Guard 14 (two converted tries), Kings Point 0.

Referee: Dean Jorgensen
