22 October 2016

Location: ICC in Canton, Ma

Boston Irish Wolfhounds inactive: 25    Albany Knickerbockers: 7

If you're into "old school rugby" with hard pack play and straight up backline running on a really muddy field, then this was the match for you.

Boston Irish Wolfhounds v Albany is a NERFU Div 2 Clubs Men's League Match. While it was a decent day (cloudy & mid-50s; no rain), the previous day's & early day weather and a match prior made the field very muddy. The field conditions made the ball slippery and severely hindered any sort of finesse play. While the score looks one-sided, it is not indicative of how the match was played.

BIW made the most first half opportunities slotting two penalty kicks (5th & 15th min) and two pack-oriented tries (19th converted & 27th min). Albany put in their own pack-oriented try at the 27th min. 18-7 half.

The first part of the second half was controlled by Albany. It looked like half-time adjustments were effective and they would end up scoring. Strong BIW defense and the sloopy conditions prevented Albany from crossing the line. BIW made the best of their very few entries into Albany's 22 and scored a late game try at the 74th minute.
