Match Report for

Southern Connecticut State University Women (1st) vs. Franklin Pierce University Women (1st)
01 October 2016

Location: SCSU Rugby Field, New Haven, CT

Southern Connecticut State University Women: 17    Franklin Pierce University Women: 26

In a closely contested match, Franklin Pierce opened the scoring at 16 minutes through a nice break from their inside center and never relinquished the lead. They used their backs to good effect on a narrow pitch, while Southern Connecticut had the slight advantage in the scrum. Both teams made an effort to play 15-man rugby but too many penalties against both sides for offside and high tackles interrupted any continuity. Yellow cards to Southern at 50 and 72 minutes for dangerous tackling left them shorthanded for much of the second half. FP ran out winners by four tries (3 converted) to three (1 converted).

The teams played a 30-minute 'B' side game to a 0-0 draw. Lots of new players, with a heavy focus on safe scrummaging.

Referee: Dean Jorgensen
