Match Report for

Rutland (1st) vs. Monadnock (1st)
24 September 2016

Location: Gawet Memorial Field

Rutland: 8    Monadnock: 20

Hard hitting battle between two teams that like to keep the ball in the pack. The first twenty minutes saw multiple phases of possession from both sides, with some timely and effective counter-rucking necessary to stop the other team's flow of offense. The only try of the first half, by Monadnock, came off a lineout at midfield, with one of the centers running the ball the distance, making a nice move around the fullback in open field. The play started to deteriorate in the second half, with players getting a little lazy/tired at breakdowns, with the visiting club committing the bulk of the penalties. Nonetheless, Monadnock tacked on some insurance points with two quick tries in the 58th and 62nd minutes. Hats off to Rutland, who had played hard until the final whistle, and were rewarded with a try in the 76th minute. Several good displays of sportsmanship in this one, fun match to officiate.
