Williams College: 5    Bennington: 17

Due to field suitability, the game was played at Bennington's field. There were a few 'early season' mistakes, but the game was played well, in good spirits. There were no penalties for foul play. Williams did play the "No ruck" defense (of Chiefs/Italy fame) a couple of times which did cause some confusion to Bennington, who to their credit did deal with it much better than the England side did a few weeks previously.

Williams probably on balance had the better of the play, and more territory and chances, but were unable to execute. Bennington, for their part, weren't exactly shrinking violets when it came to their own offensive game, and punished Williams with some good counter rucking and runs from deep.

The second of Bennington's three tries was a little contentious; from my positioning it looked like the player had grounded the ball initially, while Williams suggested it was knocked on as the player crossed the line.

Overall, the game was played with great spirits, and was a joy to officiate.
