Match Report for

Essex Junction High School (1st) vs. (1st)
15 April 2017

Location: Maple Street Park

Essex Junction High School: 12    : 14

Both sides struggled to maintain disciplined play. Essex High committed a series of penalties early in the match, but when they stabilized their play Saratoga followed with a long series of their own that resulted, ultimately, in two yellow cards. The match, therefore, lacked flow. Saratoga's two tries, both converted, came not from a build up of phases, but from an effective penalty kick and chase and from the effort of its #12 who broke five or more tackles on his way to in-goal. Essex, however, scored two or three phases after a line-out and, near the end of the match, on a nice counterattack. The try, in the corner, made the conversion particularly difficult and accounts for the score differential.

Note: the Maple Street Park pitch in Essex Junction is excellent; most of these high school players will be disappointed when they continue play on their college pitches.

Referee: Christopher Ekman
