Beautiful Dawn conditions fell on the Pitch and both sides were ready to compete. This was a wide open game on a fast turf field. Both sides like to swing the ball wide and used this tactic to gain field. UMF scored first with a penalty kick 12 minutes in. Bates answered a little while later with their own penalty kick from their sure-footed winger who can strike from deep. Farmington scored a converted try 25 min in, and Bates answered 6 min later with a non-converted try. Before the half Bates kicked 1 more penalty to go up 1. Bates again kicked a penalty 7 min into the 2nd half to go up 14-10. The visitors then came alive and rattled off 4 consecutive tries to put the game away. This really was a closely contested match throughout with very even possession. Farmington was able to capitalize on a few good breaks and overloads and really controlled the scrums whilst Bates controlled the Lineout ball. A very fun game to officiate.
